Rapper Ms Jorji has alleged that Nigerian dancer and entertainer Poco Lee attempted to sexually assault her and her friend during an encounter in Dallas, Texas, two years ago.
Ms Jorji made the allegation while reacting to reports that Poco Lee had been arrested in the United Kingdom over an alleged sexual offence involving another woman.
According to the rapper, she and her friend visited Poco Lee at his apartment in Dallas after he invited them over. She said she was married at the time and was wearing her wedding ring when they arrived.
Ms Jorji explained that she had only recently started rapping and visited Poco Lee because she wanted advice on how to break into the Nigerian music industry.
She alleged that after she and her friend played him one of her songs, Poco Lee suddenly touched her inappropriately.
She said she immediately pushed his hand away and questioned his behaviour.
According to her, Poco Lee then allegedly began touching her friend and pulling at her dress, prompting the friend to tell her that they should leave.
Ms Jorji alleged that as they attempted to leave the apartment, Poco Lee grabbed her friend and tried to pull her into another room.
She claimed that she and her friend resisted, pushed him away and eventually managed to escape from the apartment with their belongings.
The rapper said she immediately contacted her then-husband and told him what had happened, adding that she and her friend were left in shock and drove for about three hours to return home that same night.
Explaining why she did not report the alleged incident at the time, Ms Jorji said she did not believe they had enough evidence to pursue a police complaint because they had managed to fight him off and escape.
She said she had also been intimidated by Poco Lee’s status in the entertainment industry and feared that nobody would believe her because he was more famous than she was.
Ms Jorji further claimed that she confronted Poco Lee about the incident about two years ago at an entertainment event in Nigeria.
She said she warned him never to attempt such behaviour with her again, although people around them reportedly believed she was joking.
The rapper said she decided to share the allegation now because of the reports concerning Poco Lee and another woman in the UK.
Ms Jorji maintained that her experience made her believe the current allegations against him deserved to be taken seriously.
She expressed regret that she did not speak about her alleged experience earlier, saying she wondered whether doing so could have prevented another woman from becoming a victim.
The rapper also alleged that she had previously encountered other men in the Afrobeats industry who propositioned her in inappropriate ways, claiming that some had even threatened her with weapons while demanding sexual favours in exchange for career opportunities.
Ms Jorji's allegations have not been independently verified, and Poco Lee has not been presented in this account as having been convicted of any offence.
